Stéphane Cullati

Stéphane Cullati serves as Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Fribourg and Adjunct Director of the Population Health Laboratory (#PopHealthLab). He is a member of the Foundation Board of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) and board member of the European Society of Health and Medical Sociology (ESHMS).

He trained in social sciences, philosophy and sociology at the Universities of Lausanne, Geneva and Grenoble, and obtained a doctorate (PhD) in the sociology of health and the life course from the University of Geneva and the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Life Course Research (LIVES). Following a postdoctoral fellowship University College London Research Department of Epidemiology & Public Health (UCL), he obtained a habilitation in social epidemiology from the University of Fribourg.

His research explores the intersection of health and society, specifically regarding:

  • Social determinants of health and social policies
  • Life course epidemiology
  • Ageing
  • Sex and gender in differences in health, with a focus on women’s health
  • The exposome
  • Health behaviours and prevention
  • Quality of health care
