Although research-based, meaning that the PPSA members conduct research projects – through private and public research mandates – the PPSA team also provides different paid services (e.g., consulting, workshops and presentations/conferences; see below for details).
The University of Fribourg covers most logistic costs that are associated to office space and the daily operations of the team (e.g., computers, contracts, financial…). Some members of the team also teach to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the department of Psychology (and sometimes in other departments).
We now present the different services, as well as some indicative costs for each, mainly to get an overview of how the PPSA team operates. Do not hesitate to ask us for a quote if you are interested in a service.
PRESENTATIONS/CONFERENCES
What we do ?
In the past 10 years, we have given up to 20 public and private conferences per year on langage and gender, and on stereotypes and vocational aspirations, both nationally and internationally. Presentations/conferences can go from 20 to 75 minutes (+ a discussion session), the longer versions enabling us to go beyond only raising awareness.
Of course, we are open to other issues, as long as they do fall within the boundaries of our expertise. In the past, for example, we have been mandated to give a presentation on sport, gender and violence to active coaches of different background.
How much does it cost ?
For these raising awareness conferences, we ask from 500 to 1000 Swiss francs, depending on the length of the presentation and the needs of the partner. Do not hesitate to ask us for a quote if you are interested in this service.
CONSULTING
What we do ?
Our consulting services have been offered by the PPSA team in the past 15 years. So far, the PPSA team has had numerous consulting work, and/or proofreading for more inclusive texts, mainly with public institutions (e.g., Universities, Applied Universities, Equality Offices,…) and private (or semi-private) companies (e.g., national or international companies,…), and mainly to accompany them in switching towards a more inclusive communication. We also have had some consulting work for politics, often to help them prepare arguments for Federal, Cantonal, or Communal more inclusive communications.
How much does it cost ?
Standard fees range from 150 to 170 Swiss francs per hour, depending on the needs and input that is expected. Do not hesitate to ask us for a quote if you are interested in this service.
WORKSHOPS
What we do ?
In the past ten years, we have given more than 3-10 workshops per year on gender-fair language, to both public institutions (e.g., Applied Universities, the City of Fribourg,…) and private companies (e.g., Associations des RH Fribourg, Plates-Bandes, SNF,…). Ideally, workshops are given to 12-15 participants, but we have given some workshops to bigger groups (both on-line and in presence). The workshops can last between 2 to 7 hours (a day), depending on the mandate and the knowledge participants already have on the topic.
The main aim of the workshops is to familiarise participants with inclusive, or gender-fair language, in French, and to improve their use of it, according to our recommendations for inclusive communication, or the recommendations elaborated by the partners/clients.
At the end of a workshop, participants should be able to (1) know the impact of inclusive language on our way of thinking, (2) learn about the generic or specific recommendations, (3) write texts in inclusive language, and (4) communicate in an inclusive way. Workshops are typically divided into 3 parts. First, a theoretical and scientific part aiming at raising awareness of the problems related to the semantic ambiguity in the masculine grammatical form. Second, the presentation of all inclusive forms, with their pros and cons. Third and finally, a practical part where non-inclusive texts are transformed and discussed (individual exercises, group discussion).
How much does it cost ?
Partners have been habitually charged from 700 to 2000 francs, depending on the length of the workshop and the needs of the partners. Note that to improve the possibility of on-line workshops, as well as make the workshops a little shorter for those partners/clients not wanting to spend too much time on them, we have created, with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), little video-capsules – freely available – covering all theoretical foundations of inclusive language. Those videos are available on the EPFL youtube channel (click here), and are usually used as prerequisite to participate in the (shorter or online) workshops. Do not hesitate to ask us for a quote if you are interested in this service.
RESEARCH PROJECTS
Although we do conduct our own research project (through twenty national and international public research grants), the PPSA team also provides a research project service, through which private and public companies, as well as public institutions can mandate us to conduct different projects on gender equality, or gender-fair communication, for which they might not have the appropriate ressources. The idea behind such a service is to provide partners with the research skills and experience that they might not have internally. Essentially, these institutions or companies contact us with specific questions they would like to address, and we investigate them using our expertise in research.
In these cases, we sign an agreement for the different outputs provided, and for disclosure/non-disclosure, depending on the needs and wishes of our partners. Note that – and this is important -, we only accept research mandates that follow our ethical chart (based on the Swiss Psychology Society, the APA ethical guidelines and the University of Fribourg practices). Partners that mandate us have to also sign our scientific et ethical chart.
