Childcare places
You will find below information and links to childcare facilities for your child/ren.
- Crèches and nurseries are childcare facilities open throughout the day, with onsite meals and the option for children to take an afternoon nap, available to young children, from 3 months to up the age of pre-school entry. Staff consist mainly of teachers and childcare assistants. Some crèches have admission requirements. You can always find out about the childcare facility in question.
- Childminders are individuals trained in the education field who look after a number of children in their homes for the desired time period.
These are childcare solutions you must pay for; the rate is set according to the income of the parent(s). A grant application may be made at your commune.
University crèche
The university crèche is available to parents who work or study at the University of Fribourg. It is located 5 minutes away from Fribourg station, on Rue Guillaume-Techtermann 4.
It provides care for:
- children from at least 4 months of age;
- for at least 3 half-days a week.
N.B.: changes to places and new entries take place in September. Priority is given to children who have a brother or sister who already uses the crèche.
Think about finding out about the availability of childcare places several months in advance.
Nurseries in the canton of Fribourg
The Fédération des crèches et des garderies fribourgeoises (FCGF) is an association covering all crèches and nurseries in the canton of Fribourg. You can find crèches that are association members by district on its website.
Childminders in Fribourg
The Fédération fribourgeoise d’accueil familial de jour covers all childminders trained by the State of Fribourg to look after children. Childminding is an alternative to collective childcare arrangements. The child is placed in a domestic setting, directly in the home of a childminder.
